Executive Director, Just Read, Florida! Office

On September 7, 2001, an Executive Order was signed by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush designating Just Read, Florida! as the state’s comprehensive and coordinated reading initiative. A Florida Department of Education office was formed in January, 2002, and an Executive Director was hired. This position is now vacant, and the Florida Department of Education is seeking a highly qualified educator to lead Florida’s reading initiative. Candidates should have extensive background in reading and also public speaking, since the Executive Director is frequently asked to present to professional organizations and Legislative bodies on reading issues.

The Executive Director provides leadership in state policy relating to reading initiatives; administers reading programs and services throughout Florida’s public education system; remains current on effective reading instruction, and provides technical assistance and support to school districts in the development and implementation of plans for research-based reading instruction.

A doctorate degree is preferred but not required.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
