Elementary Reading Specialist - Grades K-2 - Closing Date: Friday, October 7, 2011

This Program Specialist IV position serves as an Elementary Reading Specialist for grades K-2. The following functions are performed:

• Provides statewide leadership, coordination and technical assistance for reading instruction in the implementation of education reform and accountability. This requires consulting and assisting in a variety of educational program initiatives.
• Provides leadership, coordination and technical assistance in the design, development and implementation of State mandates and initiatives, including the K-12 Comprehensive Research-Based Reading Plan, Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading (FAIR), Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, the Instructional Materials Reading Adoption, Reading Professional Development, and other Department initiatives and products to assist improvement of instruction.
• Provides leadership, coordination and technical assistance to Department personnel, school districts and other education stakeholders on instructional programs, research, best practices, innovations, materials and strategies related to the teaching of reading.
• Assists professionals in other subject areas in developing reading strategies for implementation of discipline specific literacy.
• Assists in the implementation of school improvement activities statewide, especially for low performing schools.
• Participates in the activities of professional organizations as they relate to state leadership responsibilities in the area of reading and elementary instruction.
• Assists appropriate agencies and organizations in the development, dissemination, distribution and implementation of reading and elementary instruction programs and materials.
• Facilitate, manage, and deliver professional development in the form of reading institutes, conferences, and workshops.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
