 Contest Rules

6th Grade Illustration Contest:

  • Only one entry per student will be accepted.
  • Only original artwork will be accepted. Artwork can be created in pen-and-ink, pencil, colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, or mixed media. Medium to heavy-weight art paper is recommended. The minimum size is 8.5" by 11" and the maximum is 24" by 30".
  • Only 2-D artwork will be accepted.
  • Artwork is to be based on any one scene from the book Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson.
  • Each submission must include a title, student’s name, parent(s) name(s), home address, home/work/cell phone, grade level, school district, school name, school phone number, teacher’s name, and a description of the artwork, not to exceed 100 words that is written on the back of the entry. Entries not having ALL of this information will automatically be disqualified.
  • Artwork will NOT be returned.
  • All entries must be postmarked no later than 5:00 p.m. EST, Friday, November 10, 2006 to the following address:

7th Grade Short Essay Contest:

  • Only one entry per student will be accepted.
  • Essay must be 500 words.
  • Entries are to be based on the book Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Using only dialogue, students should write a scene between two characters that takes place after the end of Peter and the Starcatchers and before the beginning of the original Peter Pan.
  • Each submission must include a title, student’s name, parent(s) name(s), home address, home/work/cell phone, grade level, school district, school name, school phone number, teacher’s name, and word count. Entries that do not include ALL of this information will automatically be disqualified.
  • All entries must be submitted electronically no later than 5:00 p.m. EST, Friday, November 10, 2006 to the respective link at the following web address: www.justreadflorida.com

8th Grade Short Video Contest:

  • Only one entry per student will be accepted.
  • Film must be 7 minutes or less.
  • Entries must be in VHS, DV Cam, Mini DV, or DVD format only.
  • Any accompanying music must be original.
  • Entries are to be based on a reenactment of any chapter or segment of a chapter from the book Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. You can use any number of people, animals, and places in creating your video. Only the individual submitting the video will be eligible to participate in the contest and to win prizes.
  • Submission must include a title, student’s name, parent(s) name(s), home address, home/work/cell phone, grade level, school district, school name, school phone number, teacher’s name, description of the film not to exceed 100 words that specifically outlines the role you played in the creation of the film. Entries not having ALL of this information will automatically be disqualified.
  • Videos will not be returned.
  • All entries must be postmarked no later than 5:00 p.m. EST, Friday, November 10, 2006 to the following address:
