Florida K-12 Reading Walk Throughs

In the continued effort to provide districts with high quality resources, the Just Read, Florida! Office is pleased to announce the release of the Florida Administrative Reading Walk Through (RWT) for grades K-12. Modeled after the more generalized classroom walk through, the Florida RWT was created in collaboration with the Florida Center for Reading Research and the Center on Instruction to provide a structure for school administrators for the regular viewing of the indicators of effective classroom reading instruction through brief classroom visits. The Florida RWT provides a framework for organizing and analyzing data to facilitate reflective, focused dialogue about the teaching and learning of reading with the goal of improved student learning and achievement.

Districts have included within their K-12 Reading Plans the commitment to utilize a reading walk through tool as an opportunity for principals to view classroom reading instruction, reflect on the collegial conversations prompted by the walk through, and target professional development within the school. The Florida RWT is a tool districts may wish to use to meet that goal.

Just Read, Florida! is partnering with the Florida Department of Education William Cecil Golden School Leadership Development Program to provide access to the Florida RWT tool, at no extra charge, in conjunction with the general classroom walk through tool (CWT) under license for those districts implementing Teachscape’s Classroom Walkthrough version 2.0 in schools this year.

The RWT tool may be used in hard copy form or completed as a PDF form by districts not currently utilizing Teachscape. Links to these PDF files are below.
